PCI‑6602 performs encoder position measurement, event counting, period measurement, pulse width measurement, pulse generation, pulse train generation, and frequency measurement. It features eight counters/timers, digital dejitter filters, and TTL/ CMOS-compatible digital I/O. PCI‑6602 can perform three high-speed DMA transmissions simultaneously.

The calibration process for this device is time base calibration, which ensures accurate time and frequency measurements.


The device has attenuation synchronization, which is useful when several counters are estimating or processing similar external signals. For example, suppose the counters 0 and 1 are designed to activate pulse generation, and each counter uses a similar external trigger (in addition, the part flag is associated with PFI 38 on the I/O connector, and both counters select PFI 38 as their GATE). After the trigger signal surges through the I/O pad, the ideal chance of the signal reaching the GATE of each counter inside the ASIC may vary by a few nanoseconds.
