The MOTOROLA MVME3100 Series VMEbus single-board computers help Oems on industrial, medical, and defense/aerospace VMEbus platforms improve performance and functionality to gain a competitive advantage while still protecting their essential investments in VMEbus and related technologies. Customers can retain their VMEbus infrastructure (chassis, backplane, and other VMEbus and PMC boards) while improving performance and extending lifecycle. In addition, the extended life cycle of MOTOROLA computing products helps reduce churn in development and supports work caused by frequent product replacement.
The MVME3100 is one of the first VMEbus products to feature the system-on-chip MPC8540 processor, providing a growth path for VMEbus customers who have applied on previous generation VME, particularly MPC8240 and similar (MPC603 series) processors. System-on-chip implementations provide power/heat dissipation, reliability, and lifecycle benefits not found in other architectures. The combination of a faster processor and the 2eSST VMEbus interface (the same as the MVME6100) significantly improves performance.
New and cost-effective peripherals can be easily integrated using USB and serial ATA interfaces. SATA represents a significant cost reduction opportunity from older SCSI technology, with drives of the same capacity typically priced lower.
