The VMNME-3122(Figure 1 on page 15) is a high-resolution, 16-bit, 64-channel analog scanning and digitizing pad for VMEbus system applications. With dual-port data memory, onboard timer, automatic control gain and programmable bus interrupter, the VMIVME-312 is able to support a wide range of analog input traffic while minimizing the involvement of the host processor

Analog inputs are scanned and digitized sequentially. The numeric value is stored in a two-port data buffer that can be accessed from the VMEbus at any time. The gain for each channel can be programmed individually or set in software to a fixed gain common to all channels. The channel gain can be selected by software as x1 or x10. Analog-to-digital converter voltage ranges can be selected via jumper +2.5V, 5V, ±10V, 0 to 5V and 0 to 10V.

When a system or program reset occurs, the board is initialized in 64-channel auto-scan mode at a rate of 100 KHz, with all channel gains initialized in units (x1). After the reset operation, the program can choose a timed burst or trigger burst mode, and can modify the module size, buffer size, and channel gain as needed.

The channel blocks can be adjusted to 1, 8, 16, 32, or 64 channels, and the data buffer size can be selected in binary increments from 16 to 1024 data words. In standard performance mode, the board must be reprogrammed after reset to achieve a scan rate of 50 kHz. The value $00F7 must be written to the relative address $0006..

Timed data bursts are controlled by an interval timer that provides repeated or single burst intervals of up to 687 seconds. The burst can contain samples of 8 to 1024 channels. The data readiness flag can be used in the middle or at the end of a scan, and an interrupt request can be generated at the same time as the flag. Interrupts can also be initiated after a specific number of samples have been collected
