25-pin female D-type 10-slot I/O bus expansion backboard, IC693CHS392J, has several uses. It is basically used as a PLC local chassis, but can also be used to expand I/O to other locations not more than 50 feet (15 m) nearby (called local I/O expansion). Local I/O scaling allows users to increase the I/O of the PLC and enhance control under the supervision of a single processor. There is no CPU on the mainboard. Local I/O extension is a good option for small PLC systems where the I/O is located near the local chassis.


A 25-pin female D-type I/O bus expansion connector is installed at the right end of the IC693CHS392J expansion base plate. This connector is used to connect to other baseboards. It has 10 slots, marked in order from 1 to 10. The baseplate cannot exist alone. It must be installed in the CPU baseboard of a system with a CPU, either in a PLC or in a personal computer with a Personal computer interface (PCI) card. The first extended backboard is connected to the CPU backboard via a short parallel cable that provides seamless parallel data transfer between the CPU backboard and the locally extended I/O backboard. The type of CPU determines the number of expansion backboards that can be installed in the system. Cpus 331, 340, and 341 support up to four backboards, while cpus 350 and above support up to seven backboards. Power must be supplied to the expansion baseboard and must be calculated based on the modules of the baseboard and the local load that will be placed on each baseboard power supply.
