ABB has introduced a digital Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) synchronous machine that targets below 3.5MVA. AVR is suitable for use in grid connected units of synchronous motors or in isolated island operations where several units are connected in parallel. This application can be found in industry in the ocean as well as in stand-alone applications using variable speeds such as diesel-electric locomotives, port cranes diesel generator sets and ship grids with DC power on board. This digital AVR is designed for demanding grid code as well as dynamic fault crossing requirements (FRT) detection.
