The REF620 IEC Feeder Protection and Measurement and control device is a dedicated feeder protection device specifically designed to protect, control, measure and monitor public and industrial power grids, including radiant, ring and mesh power grids. The REF620 provides feeder overcurrent and ground fault protection, which can be applied to neutral ungrounded networks and resistance or impedance neutral ground networks. In addition, the REF620 can also be used for ring mesh distribution networks or radiation network protection, using the device's advanced interstation communication capabilities.

The REF620IEC feeder protection and measurement and control devices are available in single and dual bus configurations, each bus configuration with one or two circuit breakers and multiple switching device configurations. The device supports a large number of manual and electric isolation switches and ground switches. The amount of available I/o can be increased according to the needs of ABB's RIO600 remote l/o devices.

The REF620 IEC feeder protection and measurement and control unit features support for the substation IEC61850 communication standard, covering vertical and horizontal communication, GOOSE messages with switching and analog signals, and set setting based on IEC 61850-8-1. The REF620 also supports DNP3,IEC 60870-5-103, and Modbus protocols. REF62o provides an optional Ethernet interface for redundant Ethernet without delay or a ring self-healing RSTP communication in the event of a communication failure via PRP or HSR protocols. This solution eliminates the single point of failure and improves communication reliability. The solution can be applied to Ethernet-based IEC 61850,Modbuso and DNP3 protocols.
