模拟输入模块利用RS-485总线作为数据通信线路，提供模拟量转485功能，能够同时将模拟量输入至模块，并通过RS-485总线传输至计算机。由于采用RS-485接口作为通信接口，其能够多个模块组合传输更多路数模拟量信号，并且能够在485线路上分散配置，采用地址码进行区分，可以直接接入MODBUS RTU协议的组态软件。

输入输出模块也称为控制模块，在有控制要求时可以输出信号，或者提供一个开关量信号，使被控设备动作，同时可以接收设备的反馈信号，以向主机报告，是火灾报警联动系统中重要的组成部分。

一般的输入/输出单元都有光电隔离装置，在数字量IO模块中广泛采用由发光二极管和光电三极管组成的光电耦合器，在模拟量IO模块中通常采用隔离放大器。

输入模块是单输入模块和双输入模块的总称，而单输入模块只接受1个设备的动作信号。

在消防报警系统中，根据实际使用情况不同，进行选择单输入模块或双输入模块，例如楼层中防火阀之间距离大，则在每个防火阀处设计一个单输入模块即可。
