According to this goal, PM866K01 puts forward a controller, which keeps the position constraint. This new type of energy-saving controller (such as Green-DP) uses the economical structural nonlinear model predictive controller (ENMPC) and adopts "green" targets and performance indicators, including propeller energy efficiency. In the simulation environment, MATLAB/Simulink simulator and toolbox accessories are used to demonstrate the performance of the proposed energy-saving DP called green NMPC. The controller is tested for moderate to high wave conditions. Compared with NMPC, the controller can keep the ship's positioning target, and at the same time, it can reduce the need for swing propeller by up to 50%. Offshore operations in PM866K01 offshore area face additional environmental challenges. For example, the waves tend to be bigger, the wind is stronger, and the surface water is more turbulent. Unless these disturbances are filtered or adequately handled by the controller, they will lead to excessive motion of the propeller, which will lead to propeller wear, controller performance degradation and energy efficiency reduction (Sorensen et al., 2002).
