The CI868A can be used to connect AC 800M controllers to external Ethernet devices using the IEC 61850 - Edition 2 standard. Since this is the standard for substation automation, it allows process automation and electrical control to be combined in the same controller.

The TP868 baseboard has two RJ45 Ethernet connectors, of which the CH1 connector can use either 10Mbps or 100Mbps (megabits per second). The baseplate has a combination lock that prevents the installation of incorrect types of equipment on the TP867 baseplate.

The CI868 expansion unit contains the CEX bus logic, communication unit, and DC/DC converter, providing the appropriate voltage from the +24 V supply via the CEX bus. Ethernet cables must be connected to the main network through an Ethernet switch.

The CI868A module applies only to System 800xA 6.0.3.3, 6.1.1, and later versions
