MODBUS TCP is a widely spread open industry standard because of its ease of use. It is a request-response protocol that provides services specified by function code.

MODBUS TCP combines MODBUS RTU with standard Ethernet and the common networking standard TCP. It is an application-layer messaging protocol that is located at level 7 of the OSI model. The CI867A/TP867 is used to connect an AC 800M controller to an external Ethernet device using Modbus TCP.

The CI867 expansion unit contains the CEX-Bus logic, a communication unit, and a DC/DC converter that delivers the appropriate voltage from a +24 V power supply via the CEX-Bus. Ethernet cables must be connected to the main network through an Ethernet switch.

The CI867A module applies only to System 800xA 6.0.3.3 and 6.1.1. And later versions.
