PROFIBUS DP is a high-speed multipurpose bus protocol (up to 12Mbit/s) for interconnecting field devices such as remote I/O, drives, low-voltage electrical equipment, and controllers. The PROFIBUS DP can be connected to the AC 800M via the CI854B communication interface. The CI854B includes two PROFIBUS ports for line redundancy and also supports PROFIBUS master station redundancy.


PROFIBUS-DP communication supports primary redundancy through the use of two CI854B communication interface modules. Primary redundancy can be used in combination with CPU redundancy and CEXbus redundancy (BC810). The modules are mounted on DIN rails and can be directly connected to the S800 I/O system as well as other I/O systems, including all PROFIBUS DP/DP-V1 and FOUNDATION fieldbus systems.


PROFIBUS DP must be terminated at the outermost two nodes. This is usually done by using a connector with a built-in termination. In order to ensure proper working termination, the connector must be inserted and powered.
