可编程逻辑控制器(PLC)是一种数字运算操作的电子系统,专为在工业环境应用而设计的。它采用可编程的存储器,在其内部存储执行逻辑运算、顺序控制、定时、计数和算术运算等操作的指令,并通过数字式或模拟式的输入输出来控制各种类型的机械设备或生产过程。
可编程控制器由 CPU 、指令及数据内存、输入/输出接口、电源、数字模拟转换等功能单元组成。 早期的可编程逻辑控制器只有逻辑控制的功能,所以被命名为可编程逻辑控制器,后来随着不断地发展,这些当初功能简单的计算机模块已经有了包括逻辑控制、时序控制、模拟控制、多机通信等各类功能,名称也改为可编程控制器(Programmable Controller),但是由于它的简写PC与个人电脑(Personal Computer)的简写相冲突,加上习惯的原因,人们还是经常使用可编程逻辑控制器这一称呼,并仍使用PLC这一缩写。
