Allen-Bradley 1756-DNB is a DeviceNet scanner module connected to the ControlLogix system. It acts as a bridge to collect data from the DeviceNet module and then passes a copy of the information to the controller and vice versa. With the 1756-DNB scan module, users can expect DeviceNet's communication rates to default to 125 kilobytes per second, 250 kilobytes per second, and up to 500 kilobytes per second. The node address of DeviceNet ranges from 00 to 63. The default node address is 63. A maximum of 64 nodes can be configured. It is only compatible with Logix5550 controllers. This particular module acts as a gateway between the DeviceNet device and the network to read inputs and write outputs from the device, download configuration data, and monitor the operating status of the device.

When the controller is involved, the Allen-Bradley 1756-DNB communicates in the form of diagnostic tables, inputs, and outputs. I/O Exchanges configuration data, status information, and device I/O data. The module communicates with another device using stroboscopic, polling, state change, and/or loop messages. These messages are used to collect data from each device or pass data to each device. The data received from the device is then organized and fed to the controller (input data), and the data received from the controller is sent to the device (output data). The 1756-DNB has a current of 400 mA at 5.1 volts DC and 0 mA at 24 volts DC. The module has a power consumption of about 3.5 watts and a heat dissipation of 11.9 BTU/ hour. The module can be installed in any slot of the chassis for use with RSNetWorx.
