The Alan Bradley 1746-A2 is an SLC 500 I/O expansion chassis with a 2-slot expansion rack. It provides flexibility for SLC 500 system configuration. The 1747 SLC processor, or 1746 SLC I/O adapter module and 1746 I/O module are installed in this modular case.

The 1746-A2 chassis measures 5.5 x 7 x 4 inches and weighs 0.3 kg. It requires its own independent power supply, which is mounted on the left side of the case, with backplane currents up to 10 a at 5.1 V DC and up to 2.88 a at 24 V DC, and supports rear panel mounting with an open housing. The unit supports only a specific combination of SLC 500 1756 I/O modules; Chassis interconnection cables are used to connect a maximum of three chassis and support a maximum of 30 module slots. 3 Chassis components can be locally addressed through an I/O adapter or processor in the leftmost slot. To prevent the unused I/O slots of the chassis from being contaminated by dust and debris, you must use 1746-N2 card slot packing.

The 1746-A2 chassis is suitable for use in non-hazardous areas. It operates at a temperature of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) with a relative humidity of 5 to 95 percent and does not condense.
